The Don will adopt a Tuscan accent to cook up a dinner based around the Super Tuscan wines. The dinner will be hosted by David Gleave MW, a director of The Don and one of the UK’s leading experts on Italian wine.
The Super Tuscans, so called because they stepped outside of the legal constraints of the DOC regulations (the Italian equivalent of Appellation Controlee) in the 1970s and were sold at higher prices than Chianti and other Tuscan wines at the time.
The three groundbreaking Super Tuscans were Sassicaia (first produced in 1968), Tignanello (first made in 1971) and Le Pergole Torte, made for the first time in the 1977 vintage. We’ll look at a range of wines such as Cepparello, Flaccinanello, Percarlo and others made solely from Sangiovese, like Le Pergole Torte, as well as some Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines from Bolgheri, the home of Sassicaia.
The menu, which will be written by our Head Chef, Simon Robinson, will transport you to Tuscany with its strong flavours that match perfectly the great wines from this beautiful region.
Please keep an eye out for further information as seats will be limited, and this will surely be a Dinner you won’t want to miss!
